Potentiometer safety precautions


1. The resistor body of the potentiometer is mostly made of synthetic resin made of polycarbonate, and it should avoid contact with the following items: ammonia, other amines, aqueous alkalis, aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, hydrocarbons of lipids, Strong chemicals (high pH), etc., otherwise it will affect its performance.

2. The terminal of the potentiometer should avoid the use of water-contained flux when welding, otherwise it will promote the oxidation of metal and mold of the material; avoid the use of inferior flux, bad soldering may cause difficulty in soldering, resulting in poor contact or open circuit.

3. If the welding temperature is too high or the time is too long during welding, the potentiometer may be damaged. Pin-type terminal welding should be completed within 235°C±5°C in 3 seconds. The welding should be more than 1.5mm away from the potentiometer body. Do not use solder to flow through the circuit board when welding. 350°C± 10 °C, complete within 3 seconds. And the terminal should avoid heavy pressure, otherwise it may cause poor contact.

4. When welding, adjust the height of rosin (flux) into the printing press board properly. Avoid flux penetration into the interior of the potentiometer. Otherwise, it will cause poor contact between the brush and the resistor, resulting in poor INT and noise.

5, potentiometer is best applied to the voltage adjustment structure, and the connection mode should choose "1" pin ground; should avoid the use of current adjustment structure, because the contact resistance between the resistor and the contact piece is not conducive to the passage of large current.

6, the surface of the potentiometer should avoid condensation or the presence of water droplets, avoid using in wet places to prevent insulation deterioration or short circuit.

7. When installing the "rotary type" potentiometer, when fixing the nut, the strength should not be too tight, so as to avoid damage to the screw teeth or poor rotation, etc. When installing the “iron case straight slide type” potentiometer, avoid using long screws, otherwise it is possible. Impedes the movement of the slider and even directly damages the potentiometer itself.

8. In the process of putting the knob on the potentiometer, the thrust used should not be too large (cannot exceed the parameter index of the push-pull force of the "axis" in the specification), otherwise it may cause damage to the potentiometer.

9. Rotary potentiometer operating force (rotation or sliding) will become lighter with increasing temperature and become tighter with decreasing temperature. If the potentiometer is used in a low temperature environment, it must be specified so that a special low-temperature grease can be used.

10. The design of the potentiometer shaft or slider should be as short as possible. The shorter the shaft or slider length, the better the feel and stability. On the contrary, the longer the shake is, the easier the hand feels to change.

11, the power of the potentiometer carbon film can withstand the surrounding temperature of 70 °C, when the use temperature is higher than 70 °C may lose its function.
